On July 1st, 2019 I was retrieving my enduro motorcycle that was stuck in the thick Florida swamps, on the outskirts of Palm Beach County. It took a large effort to extract the bike from the suction of the 20 inches of muck, and 18 inches of water. In the process, I dropped my pistol that had a Streamlight TLR-8 mounted on it. After covering about a quarter of a mile exiting the pine flatwoods and wetland border, I realized my mistake and put a survey ribbon on the nearest tree. Fast forward a month and a half to August 12 when I returned with a metal detector, and located the firearm and laser/flashlight combo. The gear was completely submerged in the wetland muck, at least 18 inches deep from the surface. COMPLETELY SUBMERGED for more than 40 days! I got home and began to clean the weapon. My finger hit the touch-pad of the TLR-8, and the unit lit up like new. I tested the Red Laser as well, and both functioned PERFECTLY. After examining the unit and removing the battery, I was overwhelmed by the amazing quality that Streamlight puts into their products. The battery compartment was totally dry. This particular unit is rated IPX4, which means it can tolerate water sprays from any angle for a short period of time. In this case, the unit FAR EXCEEDED those ratings and saved me a few hundred dollars I fully expected to spend on a new one. I'm ready to buy another one and have been sharing my experience with the local gun shops. Thank you, Streamlight for a fantastic product!
