Streamlight®, Inc.
Celebrating More Than 50 Years of Innovation in High Performance Lighting
More than 50 years ago, NASA was interested in developing a solar simulator for the space program to simulate sunlight outside of the filtering of the atmosphere. A group of engineers set up a laboratory in Fairfield, NJ and designed a product that produced 25 million candlepower. This research was later used to design and develop a portable device that produced one million candlepower, which was then marketed to the military and law enforcement market sectors.
A private investor from the Philadelphia area moved this young company to King of Prussia, PA, and in 1973 formed the company now known as Streamlight, Inc. Research and development begun in New Jersey expanded greatly, and in 1977 the company moved its headquarters and manufacturing facilities to Norristown, PA. Steady growth and an ever-expanding product line prompted the company to move again in November 2001 to its current headquarters in Eagleville, PA. The company added additional manufacturing space in response to growing demand for its products and currently operates a 23,000 square foot facility with over 350 employees.
An ISO 9001:2015 certified company, Streamlight today designs, manufactures and markets high-performance lighting, weapon light/laser sights and scene lighting solutions for professional law enforcement, military, firefighting, industrial, automotive and outdoor applications. With over 525 U.S. and foreign patents and over 135 U.S. and foreign trademarks, the company pioneered the development of rechargeable lights and helped revolutionize LED lighting. During its half-century of existence, the company has become known for its expert engineering approach to developing lighting products that deliver exceptional brightness while providing great value and long life. Today, Streamlight products are sold throughout the U.S. and in over 90 countries worldwide.
Streamlight pioneered the development of a unified rating system for flashlight products called the ANSI (American National Standards Institute)/PLATO (Portable Lights Trade Organization) FL-1 Standard to help customers evaluate and compare key features of personal lighting tools.
Streamlight is a proud supporter of a variety of charities. It is a major sponsor of Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS) as well as the National Fallen Firefighters® (NFFF), both of which honor the lives of fallen first responders and support their families and colleagues. The company also supports charities through its "Lights for a Cause" line of flashlights. The program consists of a series of special logoed lights with proceeds donated to charitable causes, including "pink" lights to support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation's efforts to find a cure for breast cancer and "blue" lights to support COPS programs.
