Streamlight's new President and CEO, Ray Sharrah, is a veteran Streamlight® employee. He began his career in 1976 while still attending college, working as a part-time employee along with five other employees in a tiny leased production space in King of Prussia, PA. At the time, the company's product line consisted of a single flashlight, a million candle power hand-held light derived from technology that had been developed earlier for NASA.
Sharrah became a full-time employee in 1978, joining Streamlight as Sales Manager after obtaining his Bachelor's degree from West Chester University.
As the company continued to grow, Sharrah held a variety of positions in the Sales, Marketing and Manufacturing departments. In 1985, he was named Vice President, with responsibility for all company operations and new product development. Under his direction, Streamlight emerged as a regional leader for "cellular" manufacturing, where factory employees are grouped in multi-skilled teams, or work "cells," to manufacture and assemble products.
During his Streamlight career, Sharrah has been responsible for obtaining more than 80 U.S. and 12 international patents for lighting technology that benefit flashlight users across many different industries.
Today, the company has evolved from a small manufacturer that marketed a single flashlight to law enforcement agencies, to a world-class provider of high-performance lighting equipment. The trust and loyalty that public safety professionals place in Streamlight products—combined with the company's reputation for uncomprising product quality—continues to drive growth in a variety of other markets, making Streamlight one of the most recognized names in professional lights and lanterns. Meanwhile, the company's production facilities have grown from 2,000 square feet to a 165,000-square-foot plant in Eagleville, PA, with nearly 300 employees to keep pace with the company's continuous growth.
In this new decade, said Sharrah, "I am particularly excited about our enhanced ability to meet the diverse needs of our customers through the continuing evolution of LEDs, electronics and high-density battery chemistries in the field of portable lighting."
Under Sharrah's leadership, count on Streamlight to continue to listen to our customers' needs, to develop an even higher standard for quality flashlights, and to carry on the tradition of excellence in lighting equipment that we have maintained for more than 35 years.
