As a leading manufacturer of professional lighting equipment, Streamlight® takes seriously its responsibility to also be a good corporate citizen. One important way we give back to the community is by sponsoring organizations that assist first responders, many of whom depend on our products in the line of duty.
We are proud supporters, for example, of Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS), an organization that serves the loved ones of fallen officers. This year, Streamlight will contribute $100,000 to help underwrite activities during National Police Week observances, as well as COPS programs, such as Kids Camp and Outward Bound, and retreats for loved ones, including siblings, spouses and parents. The company also funds a training program that helps agencies prepare for and handle the trauma of law enforcement death.
Streamlight has continually shown its willingness to support the police "family" in other tangible ways. Each year, Streamlight employees join survivors and members of the law enforcement community for the COPS Walk in Washington, DC, which raises money for COPS and its mission.
In recognition of Streamlight's continued commitment to the law enforcement community, including its support of COPS, Law Officer Magazine recently awarded Streamlight the 2009 Gold Badge of Service Award. In bestowing the award, the magazine's editors said that the company's products, "demonstrate a true understanding of the needs of our profession, and [Streamlight's] generosity has proven invaluable in helping devastated police families get their lives back on track."
Streamlight also contributes annually to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, which assists the families and co-workers of firefighters killed in the line of duty.
Beyond the public safety sector, Streamlight is an avid sponsor of Buckmasters American Deer Foundation's (BADF) "Life Hunts," which grants hunting wishes to critically ill youth and severely disabled adults. BADF even offers a program that connects hunters and meat processors with local food banks to distribute excess venison to those in need.
Recently, to raise money for a cure for breast cancer, a disease that has such a devastating impact on so many American women and their families, Streamlight introduced the Pink Nano Light® flashlight. To date, the company has sold more than 70,000 of these lights and plans to donate $1 from each sale to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) later this year. And, just in time for Mother's Day, Streamlight introduced a second pink flashlight, the Pink 2AA ProPolymer®. Like the Pink Nano Light, Streamlight will donate $1 from each sale to BCRF.
Other ways that Streamlight gives back to the community include:
- Moms 4R Marines. Streamlight recently heeded the call to brighten the holidays for Marines and Navy personnel serving in Afghanistan. Streamlight not only donated 2,000 Trident® headlamps to Moms4RMarines, but several of our employees also volunteered to assemble 4,000 Christmas stockings, which included the headlamps, candy, puzzle books, gun cleaning brushes, holsters, and thank-you letters from local school children.
- Jeans Day Donation. Employees can wear jeans on Fridays in exchange for a $1 donation to various charitable causes. Recently, for example, Streamlight sent a contribution of more than $1,000 to support Haiti relief efforts.
- SWAT Trainings. Streamlight supports a variety of training events and organizations that help community response teams and law enforcement prepare for unexpected incidents. As the majority of officer-involved shootings occur at night, these courses and events prepare officers to be successful in confrontations that take place under low-light conditions. Among the organizations that Streamlight supports are the National Tactical Officers Association, Gastonia Sniper Event, Connecticut SWAT Challenge, Urban Shield and Team One.
