STREAMLIGHT® TEAM GOES THROUGH HANDS-ON FIREFIGHTING COURSE

How do you gain a better understanding of your customers and the challenges they face? One way is to walk in their shoes. In April, 10 Streamlight employees stepped into firefighter boots and walked into a burning building.

The Streamlight team, comprised of members of the Engineering and Sales & Marketing Departments, traveled to the Illinois Fire Service Institute in Champaign, IL, to undergo some of the same hands-on training done by firefighters. They took the classes, wore the heavy gear, carried the equipment, and even went through a burning, smoke-filled structure.

The team had the opportunity to use our lighting tools the way firefighters do, getting an education that can only come from hands-on experience. They saw how different beams illuminate in various kinds of smoke; how lights are used to signal and mark exits; and how features like rear LEDs help firefighters find their way and follow each other through blinding smoke. All of this information will help our team fine-tune our product line and even impact marketing and sales efforts.

After the intense training, the team continued on to FDIC International, the largest firefighting expo in the United States, where they met the firefighters who use our products, spoke with distributors, and had the chance to see our competitors’ latest lighting equipment. At Streamlight, the commitment to our marketplace is never-ending.
