Information about the TerraLUX® "Upgrade Kit" for Stinger® Flashlights
Streamlight® has received inquiries concerning an aftermarket LED replacement kit for its Stinger® flashlight. There is
confusion about whether this is a Streamlight® product, how it performs and if its use affects the Stinger® warranty in any way.
- The TerraLUX® LED kit is NOT a Streamlight® product.
- It is NOT approved by Streamlight® for use in any Stinger® flashlight.
- Damage to a Stinger® attributed to its use is not covered by the Streamlight® lifetime warranty.
The following is a summary of output and drop tests of the Streamlight® Stinger® fitted with the TerraLUX® kit as compared to the Stinger® LED. The sample size was 6 units of each.
- The TerraLUX® kit produces, on average, less than HALF the beam intensity in candela and range of a Stinger® LED.
- The TerraLUX® unit failed 100% of the time during a 1 meter drop test. The product will not meet the minimum acceptable drop height specified in the ANSI/NEMA FL1 flashlight standard.
- The TerraLUX® unit is not suitable for use in a PolyStinger®. When used in a PolyStinger®, the TerraLUX® unit
overheats to destruction.
Streamlight® has worked very hard to build confidence in its brand. Distributors are reminded that they must properly mark all Streamlight® trademarks in their sales materials so as to avoid any potential end user confusion between a Streamlight® product and a product of an unauthorized, after market participant, such as TerraLUX®. To fail to clearly distinguish actual Streamlight® products from inferior performing products diminishes the Streamlight® brand.
Streamlight®, Stinger® and PolyStinger® are registered trademarks of Streamlight, Inc.
TerraLUX is not related to
or endorsed by Streamlight, Inc.
TerraLUX® is a registered trademark of TerraLUX, Inc. of Boulder Colorado.
